Synopsis

In the spring of 2001, Richard Sexton was commissioned by Southern Accents Magazine to produce a feature on Rosemary Beach, Florida. It was the first major magazine feature devoted to this highly successful New Urbanism community. A year later, the developer, Rosemary Beach Land Company, hired him to produce an extended photo-essay on the community—a commission that encompassed a five year span from 2002 to 2007. The comprehensive library of photographic images that resulted from these commissions led to Sexton’s book on the community, published in the spring of 2007 by Pelican Publishing.

Rosemary Beach features two inter-related photo-essays that focus on the overall plan and the architectural style of the community respectively. These essays are complemented by a written introduction that details the history of Rosemary Beach, a section that illustrates the various house types, and a walking tour of the community.
